Last fall at this time, my son and I were in Salem Massachusetts on Halloween. I never imagined I’d visit this town, let alone on the one day of the year where the town’s claim to fame plays a primary role in the day’s celebrations. Ken, my husband, didn’t get to go, so these are my post cards to him from Kevin and I as of October 31st, 2014.
Dear Ken,
About 90% of the town is in costume today. Too bad we had to pack light! The cab driver told us to get here early because the roads get blocked off by mid-afternoon. We arrived around 10 am and already the town was crawling with jousters, zombies and everything in between! Wish we could stay for Halloween lock-down, but we’ll be heading off to America’s Stonehenge, as Kevin has a very full itinerary scheduled.

Dear Ken,
There are plenty of old stone and clapboard houses just outside the downtown, but the main drag has a Gothic influence that really adds to the mystique of this place. Salem is FILLED with history that has nothing to do with the Salem witch trials. Promise me we’ll come back someday to see it all?!!

Dear Ken,
We we’re able to buy tickets in advance for a tour of the Salem Witch Museum. Thank goodness they didn’t make us wait in line the whole time! And all those stories you’ve heard over the years about the Salem witch trials??? Well, that’s not really how it all happened according to the tour. Amazing how history can metamorphose to please our human yearning for the macabre! The true story is more surprising than you would believe.
XOXO Amy
Dear Ken
The Salem Witch Museum has a gift shop with lots of witchy crafts that I plan on trying to make for next year. That is unless we move?! Consider this fair warning about the crafts and the moving 😉

Dear Ken,
Another one of the main attractions is the Salem, Massachusetts graveyard. It’s been a hazy day and the weather has only enticed the mood. The headstones seem paper thin, it’s a wonder they’ve survived the centuries. Many of the Salem “witches” are also buried here. An air of reverence is apparent among the visitors, even on today of all days!

Please have a safe and happy Halloween ~ Amy

Now that is a cool experience! To be in Salem for Halloween. So enjoyed reading your postcards telling about your visit. The museum sounds like a very interesting place to visit.

Visiting the museum brought you back in time to when these events actually happened, how people thought at the time, and how their religious beliefs dictated how they viewed everything so strictly. I’m so glad I had the chance and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks so much, Thea xo
