Just because you don’t have a desk or an office at home, does not mean you can’t keep your current office essentials organized and in a place that you can easily find them. DIY Wood Crate Portable Office Organizer
I recently made this portable office caddy using two primary components. A rustic wooden crate with handles so I can easily carry it from room to room. And a galvanized planter with hooks as a holder to hang over the side of the wood bin for additional storage. How simple is that?
Once I had the basics in place, I added items that I use in my normal office routine, which include my laptop and laptop case, an expandable file folder, a stack of legal pads to keep my notes, and a small plastic case for pens, paper clips, USB stick, etc… My laptop cord and mouse are stored in the holder that hooks on the side for quick access. This keeps them from getting buried under the other office supplies that are stored in the crate.
What is the purpose of a portable home office organizer?
A portable or mobile office means that it can be moved or carried around. This could be for the sake of convenience or out of need when you don’t have a designated office in your home. Often it would be used as an extension of your personal files, records and family paperwork. It is an excellent way to stay organized and keep your current records all in one place. Lastly, it’s a great way to keep areas in your home from looking cluttered with stacks of paper, and such, especially if you don’t have a designated home office to work out of.
Should you try to fit all of your files into one of these a portable office totes?
No, unless you have an extremely small accumulation of work, home or family paperwork, you should probably not try to fit all of your files into the mobile organizer. Instead, you may want to keep a file cabinet or lager file crate somewhere safe in your home.
What office items should I keep in the home office bin?
The common items you would want to keep in a portable office might be a computer laptop, laptop cord and mouse, notepads, pens, usb equipment, a filing system and various holders for smaller items. The detailed items should pertain to the types of paperwork and records you personally have and use. Other examples include, the projects you are working on, your bill payment system, your healthcare receipts and records, and so on. Point being, it could be different for each person’s needs.
What’s the best way to get the right size bin?
Measure the length of the larger items that you’re planning to put in the bin. Most likely your laptop will be the largest item. Once you have that measurement, look for a container that is large enough to accommodate the larger items. The smaller items should be easy enough to tuck in around the rest.
