Bacon, Eggs and Bears in Gatlinburg

We had a trip to Gatlinburg, TN planned for August. We have a timeshare and had to plan way in advance to book our week. As it happened, our move to the new house was going to interfere with the trip, and if you have or know anyone with a timeshare, it’s not that easy to change the week without spending more money. So fortunately, my two sisters and five nieces were able to go instead.

The cozy cabin unit was nestled right into the mountain side, so while Ken and I were taking endless trips to the new home with boxes and furniture. My family was sitting poolside in the Smokies enjoying the last week of summer vacation.

On one of the first mornings, my niece, Katie, decided to cook bacon and eggs for breakfast. As she was cooking away (inside the cabin, with the door closed and air conditioner on), she thought she heard a knock at the door. She went to see who was there. She wasn’t expecting anyone…

But here’s who she found at the door. Yep, two young bear cubs trying to find their way into the cabin for breakfast.

From what my niece could tell, Momma bear put them up to it. Imagine sending her young’ uns up to the door, as if their cuteness just might get them all in invite to breakfast.

Who wouldn’t be a little tempted to say come right in?? I would!

Obviously there’s plenty of bears in Gatlinburg, wandering the Smokies, but what was rare according to the forest ranger was that it was broad daylight when the bears came-a-visiting.

Must have been my niece’s cooking, hmmm?

Moving, blogging, life update:

As I shared with you, recently we lost Dave in mid July and the schedules for my blogging, moving and all other activities changed up considerably. Trying to be there for Laura and her family was all I could concentrate on.

The following events took place in somewhat of the following order since:

-We helped Jazz and the kids move to a house much closer (like 2 minutes away) to both sets of grandparents, and other family. This way Jazz will be able to have the help she needs with the kids without having to drive over 15 miles every time.

-Next we all joined forces to help Jazz fix up their townhouse for rental. Here’s a pic of my friend Deanne painting at the townhouse.

-Next came packing, finding and securing renters for our townhouse, the closing date, the actual move, then fixing up our townhouse for renting, yada yada.

-Sometime along the way,  I updated a plugin on the blog and got a virus, which took a week to figure out how to fix.

-Shortly thereafter, Google Webmaster sent me a notification that the blog had been hacked. But our internet was down for a week after the move, so I couldn’t do anything until we got that back up…

-Oh, and then I got food poisoning.

-Then our Kitty ran away. We are heart broken and we still can’t find him, but we’re keeping our hopes up that he’ll wander back any day.

I know I’m leaving a few things out, but we have officially moved to the new house.

We are slowly setting up house, and I plan to gradually work back into a blog schedule.

I’m loving the new house, flaws and all, and look forward to sharing some of the “fun” we’ve been having getting situated.

Here’s hoping you all are well and thanks for stopping by ~ Amy
