I took a few days off from work, to try and get some stuff done around the house, and as I mentioned the other day, to take our annual trip to the dunes. The trip went off as planned, no surprises. We had a wonderful time and the water was positively perfect! This year, I psyched myself up for the trip by making the fisherman’s netting jars.
Last year, before I left for the dunes last year, I had just enough time to repurpose a souvenir straw hat from our trip to Mexico into a newfangled beach hat with washi tape.
This beach hat came in quite handy to help keep my fair-maiden skin (yeah, right!!!) out of the sun both this year and last, but here is what it looked like originally.
I shared this project over at Inspiration Cafe last year. If you’d like to see the tutorial, you can check it out right here.
I’ve got a few more beach inspired projects coming up, so I hope you will stay tuned.
With the rest of my time off from work, I cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more; decluttered and then cleaned again. It feels goooood!
I even have an update on the basement… Yeah, we’re still plugging away on that, though I could see why no one might believe me.
Ken has finished prepping the open ceiling for paint and low and behold, the walls are finally down!!
Some might say it looks worse than when we started. (This was how it looked before wall came down).
Problem is, these walls were never right to begin with. You can see in this picture that the walls were put up haphazardly, at best. (This shot is from the backside, aka: in the laundry room area).
The original wall-putter-uppers apparently grabbed any materials they could find, as in a little bit of dry wall here, a bit of plywood here, “what else can we find? Oh, I know, how about a random piece of paneling….????” …is what they must have been saying to either themselves or the other wall-putter-upper that was helping them.
The good news is that some of those random pieces of “wall” as well as the 2×4’s are going to be repurposed into a laundry table, or work bench, or… something like that. We will be re-using every piece we can to pinch pennies.
Ken has been working 7 days a week (his busy season) and has been coming home every night and plugging away bit by bit… My hero.
So that is where it’s at around here.
Is anyone else doing a mid-summer (or winter) house cleaning?
Mel says
Nope I am avoiding the cleaning, Jules is away and I am wallowing in junk food and trash tv LOL Only doing the basics like laundry and Dishes and a quick tidy of toys.
Go Ken, what a guy, I’d say he deserves a cold beer this weekend and a relax, 7 days and working around the house, he’s a keeper!

It looks awesome with all the white. I can definitely tell that you have been cleaning. I hear you about de-cluttering. It make you feel like you can breathe. We have been busy with our outdoor project while the mosquitoes are biting. Nothing speaks summer better than scratching yourself raw!

No cleaning for me! It’s one of the things I absolutely hate to do, which is kind of weird since I owned a cleaning business for 14 years lol.
Things are moving along at your house quite nicely!
