Did you ever notice how many birthdays there are in July? According to babycenter.com, July is the 4th most popular month for birthdays in recent times (in the U.S.) with September, August and June being the front runners. That’s a lot of  summertime birthdays with a lot of potential gift giving, gift wrapping and perhaps even scrounging around for gift boxes in the right size. DIY Chalkboard Painted Cardboard Box Gift Box | DIY Gift Box | stowandtellu.com

Which leads me the DIY gift box that I made for a larger gift I was giving to one of my friends for her 50th birthday. LOL if you want, but this gift box was easy to make, and once I was done… I was done!! I didn’t have to wrap it, or even add a tag.

Cardboard box

Chalkboard paint

Shape Tape ( I used the Wave pattern)

Sponge roller

Chalk or chalk pen

Rope or twine (optional)

Remove any mailing tape from the top portion of the box.

Apply the Shape Tape along the edges of the box. I had to double up the tape around the corners.

Make sure to smooth the tape edges down before painting.

Roll on the chalkboard paint with sponge roller. Let dry 1 hour and then apply 2nd coat and let that dry.

Slowly and carefully remove the shape tape. The tape came off nicely with a sharp painted edge, but I had to go very slowly around the areas where the box had originally had mailing tape on it.

Punch two holes in the top of the box folds and string through some rope or twine.

(To get my the box folds to stay down I added a dab of hot glue on the underside of the flaps.)

Write a message with chalk, or a chalk pen. You can also season the chalkboard areas by rubbing chalk on the surface and then rubbing off.

How cute would this DIY gift box be in other paint colors, other Shape Tape shapes, for Christmas gifts or used in a party theme?

As I believe each day is a gift, I hope that yours is great one!! ~ Amy
