Wondering what to get one of my best friends, for her birthday, I was in a quandary until it occurred to me that a glamping gift basket might be just the thing. She’s an avid camper, and what girl doesn’t need a little glamour on her birthday? She and I used to take our kids camping all the time when they were young…back when there was a lot less glamp in our camp. Our camping trips usually consisted of traipsing the kids from one outdoor activity to another while being on continual sunscreen and bug repellent application duty. Our menu was most often made up of hot dogs, chips, marshmallows and Kool-aid, or some combination thereof. So, I was thinking that a basket full of items to pamper oneself by would be much more appreciated, especially if she can take with her on her mini birthday vacation, (which I will have to miss because of work, dang!)
In case you haven’t heard, glamping is just what it sounds like: glamour and camping. Inspired by some of my favorite glamping ideas, here is what I pulled together to make a glamping gift basket.
I was on the hunt for a nice basket, when I found this super cool white-washed, wooden lantern. It was the last one of the shelf. Score!! It has a glass vase inside which can be used for candles or even better, she can fill it with a string of party lights electric or battery powered. Since I couldn’t pass it up, this lantern became my basket for the gift.
To make the glamping sign, I took a strip of cardboard and gave it a quick dry brush coat of white, black and tan craft paint partially mixed together. Then I glued on a piece of map-styled scrapbook paper. I dabbed the edges of the cardboard with hot pink craft paint, added foam letters, and then made two hole punches on the ends and strung it with craft wire.
Move on over marshmallows, as I filled a few glass jars full of crackers and sweet treats. I decorated the lids with fancy travel-inspired scrapbook paper and tied them off with hot pink bows.
Did you know that some glampers actually bring along their bathtubs for a long, hot soak in the tub while camping? When I saw these scrumptious scented cupcake soaps, I knew I had to include a few.
I finished this basket off with a bottle of Red Truck wine and a brick of gourmet cheese (not shown.)
To wrap it all up I used old maps instead of tissue paper, tucking the wine bottle into the center of the lantern and the soaps around the outer section. Using the wooden lantern as my basket, I couldn’t fit everything inside the lantern, so I had to use a gift bag, as well, but I think you get the idea.
The glamping concept is still fairly new, (to me, anyway.) Camping is not for everyone, but glamping allows us girls to add in that cushion of comfort (aka: glamour) to make it more tolerable. If it sounds intriguing, check out my Glampsites Done Right board on Pinterest by clicking here. You would be amazed at the glamping craze going on out there at campsites around the world.
If you are considering a glamping gift basket for your favorite glamper girl friend, then here is a simple rule of thumb: If it’s got some glamp and she can use it while she camps, then it will go perfectly in a glamping gift basket.
