40+ Ways to Repurpose Your Clothing

September 13, 2014 By Amy 7 Comments

Love that old sweater, but it’s just a little too worn out? Can’t throw out your favorite old pair of jeans? Want to salvage that concert t-shirt from the 90’s…just for the memories? DIY Repurposed clothing projects have been around for a while, but I don’t think they’re going anywhere any time soon.

Reason#1:  it’s a money saver!! Your old clothing becomes your material (which can often get costly.)   Reason#2:  you can’t part with that piece of clothing, because the best  night of your life was the night you wore that sweater…or you looked pretty darn good in those jeans…once upon a time.

I’m sure there’s more reasons, but it’s often easier than you think to turn an old garment into new home decor, a holiday craft, or something fun and funky that will keep you from hoarding those oldies but goodies in your closets and drawers.

I know I’ve shared of few of my clothing upcycles with you in the past, but I have also been hanging out over at Hometalk.com, pulling together a board of Repurposed Clothing ideas for inspiration, and I want to share it with you today.

Repurposed Clothing ideas

If you click on the photo above, it will take you over to my board on Hometalk and you will be able to see all of the clips. If you click on the individual posts on that board, it will take you to the tutorials for each project.

Below are a few of the clothing upcycles that really caught my eye.

Sweater-Pumpkins-Aldeberry-Hill

Let’s start with this sweater transformed into a pumpkin from Alderberry Hill.

Wouldn’t that look adorable on a Fall mantel?

Unskinny-Boppy-Sweater-Lamp-Shade

As a lover of lamp upcycles,

I’m lovin’ this upclycled sweater lamp shade from Unskinny Boppy.

Felted-Christmas-Trees-Homeroad

A repurposed wool jacket makes the cutest little Christmas tree ornaments from Homeroad?

jean-pocket-garland-dukes-and-duchesses

Dukes and Duchesses gets very creative using old blue jean pockets to make not just a party banner, but a utensil holder, too.

T-shirt-canvas-At-Home-with-the-Barkers

Salvaging not just an old concert t-shirt, but the memory of a night out enjoying some music makes the notion of turning those old shirts into wall art a brilliant idea from At Home with the Barkers.

Material can be really expensive, right? So if there is a way to repurpose sweaters, jackets, t-shirts, socks…into new and useful items such as pillows, hanging storage, holiday crafts and gifts…oh the possibilities!!!

Once again, you can check out the rest of the Repurposed Clothing ideas.

Thank you for stopping ~ Amy

Love these ideas, and your other repurposed clothing ideas! I just recently started getting into projects like this, and I’m currently working on a rug made out of old bed sheets. Thanks for sharing 🙂
