It’s a busy week, here. Both my hubby and I are celebrating our birthdays, and I am doing Habitat for Humanity this weekend with the company I work for. Not very exciting, but then again, I’m not really the type of person who says, “I’ll try just about anything, once, in life…” because I’m way too much of a chicken. Take for example cliff hanging, fire breathing or Mezcal. I’ll be trying NONE of these, any time soon! On the other hand, when it comes to crafting, re-purposing, up-cycling, re-decorating…I find I have an alter ego who says, “of course, I’ll try that…it can’t be so hard… bring it on…I’ve never seen this done before…what do you mean this won’t work??” Good idea or not, I admit, I can get downright hazardous with a paint brush, a pair of scissors, or a bottle of Mod Podge. I don’t like to call it experimenting; I much prefer the words “research and exploration.” If you have been following me, you know that I’ve had quite a few craft explorations, lately, so I wanted to give you a quick go round of a few furniture pieces from my much-to-stocked inventory that are just about to break the surface. I’ve got a little somethin’somethin’ unique planned for almost every one, and they’ll be “coming soon”…I hope you stay posted!!
This chair was given to me recently by a neighbor from my childhood. It was made by the Twin Rivers Furniture Corporation. I have some more brainstorming to do on it; meanwhile, it will get a few small repairs…and don’t fret! Whatever I do, I won’t be painting over that lovely maple!
Here is an old small, but “tall boy” dresser. I already know what I’m going to do with this one. I just have to actually DO IT! See the quick update with rope handles, here.
And then there is this one. It’s a small desk that I picked up off someone’s curb. This one is almost complete!!
**Update: This desk is now finished!! Click here and see how it turned out.
This last one is a personal project for my brother and sister-in-law. It’s from Sears and Roebuck. I can’t find much history on it, but it still holds the invoice on the back and the factory markings. My brother asked me to refinish this piece for them. It arrived with 3-4 coats of very old paint. I found out the hard way that I definitely don’t like stripping…furniture, that is…So, my husband has stripped and sanded the entire piece himself, (did I mention, that he is a perfectionist!) He did an awesome job and this piece is now ready to be refinished. That part I can do myself, once my brother gives me the go ahead.
**** Update: The Sears & Roebuck has been completed click here and see how it turned out.
These are just a few, believe me, I have more. In the meantime, I’m trying to stay away from all yard sales, thrift stores and flea markets. We’ll see how that goes!!
