Townhouse Rehab #tbt

I”m going to take you on a walk down rehab memory lane for throwback Thursday and show the before and after photos of my townhouse from one of our first renovations.

Ken and I weren’t married when I first moved in, we weren’t even dating, so at that time, my brother was going to help me do some rehabbing of my new place.

At first glance, the place looked liveable, sure! But after moving in, we began to realize that… there was a lot of work that needed to be done.

My brother had a field day one Saturday morning and began ripping just about everything out!

He started with the carpet, and worked his way from there until it looked like the picture below –>

This is one of my besties, Laura.

She came over one day to help scrape wallpaper off the walls that were wallpapered over straight drywall. One of the previous owners was either too cheap, or forgot the primer/ paint step.

Either way the task of removing the wallpaper was daunting at best.

Stripping these walls was a chore beyond the lay person’s capabilities. No matter how hard we tried to remove the glue, we couldn’t achieve what anyone would consider a paintable surface.

Finally Laura’s brother, Wayne, of the tin bucket golf lamp shade fame came over and skim coated the walls for us.

Ken and I were dating by now, so Ken, being the project lover that he is, stepped in as well.

With his and Wayne’s expertise, we were eventually able to rehab the main level of the townhouse enough that it looked waayyy better, like the picture below —>

Between Ken, Wayne and my brother we were able to added new trim around the doors and window, new paint, and new laminate flooring.

The townhouse was finally presentable with a Big, BIG, BIG sigh!

The structure of the townhouse has stayed pretty much the same, although that spot in front of the window has morphed, many a times. But that’s another walk down another lane.

Hope you are having a rehabulous #tbt !! ~ Amy

Gotta love those fixer uppers! They always say the best way to a divorce is renovations….but in your case it looks like the opposite! You have done amazing work!
