Lots of creative garden ideas spotted in Downtown Ojai! Come window shopping with me for garden decor inspiration in the California sun.
Last Christmas while visiting my son, we drove up into this scenic California mountain town for the day. Ojai is known for its hip restaurants, wineries, art galleries, and new-age living, There’s plenty to do and see, yet one of my favorite past times while traveling is window shopping. So, while perusing the shops on Ojai Avenue, I came across some pretty cool and unique garden finds. Here are a few of my favorites.
Perhaps I live under a rock, but one thing I’ve never seen before is a bike rack, like this one, sporting a trough-like garden planter. Have you?
I love how it challenges the whole “form follows function” theory of a bike rack.
How about these handmade, whimsical, sea creature-inspired planters?
With Ojai being so near to the coast, these fit right in. But they’d be gorgeous hanging from anyone’s patio. Anywhere. Anytime. I’ll take 5. One in each color. Thank you.
“My. What big eyes you have”, said we, to these retro-inspired, hand-tooled owl planters.

So curiously cool and bright, they’d cheer up any garden space or patio.
Nature rules with this rustic branch wreath you can keep up year round. Drape it with pine and berries in the winter. A posy of flowers in the spring or summer. Pumpkin garland in the fall.
I couldn’t help but be drawn to the way the sunlight catches the detail in these brightly colored, blown-glass hummingbird feeders.
Not only would you be able to watch our little winged friends dine on nectar, but you’d get a mini colorful light show on a daily basis.
Thanks for window shopping with me, today. I hope you were as intrigued by some of these garden treasures as I was.
Now it’s your turn. Find some time soon, to head out to your nearest downtown area to explore.
Go have coffee, do a wine tasting, window shop or simply find a spot to sit and relax, (like we did at this outdoor patio on Ojai Ave).
I can almost promise you, you’ll see something new and interesting and be grateful you took a time-out.
Window shopping is one of 45 things you can do during the winter to get inspired or simply get off your tush. I hope you enjoyed this little shopping spree and if you ever find yourself near Ventura County, CA, consider stopping off in downtown Ojai.
