She Wouldn’t Have it Any Other Way Keepsake Memorial Ornament

We finished the twig ornament project over this past weekend. Our group was comprised of two guys breaking sticks, two girls with hot glue guns and several comedians to keep us in stitches while we worked on the ornaments. Three hours later, we had a count of twenty plus ornaments and sore fingers from breaking all those twigs, but life was good!

Last year’s ornament project went off a little differently. Though we had plenty of laughs, there’s never a lack of that in our family, the ornaments we made were in remembrance of my mom, who passed away in March earlier that year.

Keepsake Memorial or Memory Ornament - StowandTellUSome might call these memorial ornaments or keepsake memory ornaments. I’m not sure there is a proper term or that there needs to be.

What I do know is that we made some of these when we lost my dad nine years ago, and everybody cherished them so much, that we knew it was only apropo to do the same for my mother.

Keepsake Memorial or Memory Ornament - StowandTellU1My sister ordered 3″ blank, round wooded discs from a craft store online. We taped several discs together at a time, and my brother-in-law drilled a hole in each grouping for hanging purposes.

Keepsake Memorial or Memory Ornament - StowandTellUWe scanned old photos of my mother in the prime of her life, trust me  ~ She wouldn’t have wanted it any other way~

Next we:

  • Printed the photos,
  • Sprayed the paper with hairspray (to keep the ink from smearing),
  • Used a circular lid ( this one looks like it came from a jar of scented beads) to make circles around her picture.
  • We cut out the circles
  • Attached the photos onto the discs with decoupage,

Thanks for stopping by.

I Hope the holiday season is bringing you all good cheer!! ~ Amy

Your mother was beautiful Amy, but I’m not surprised.

This is such a lovely way to preserve and share family photos with future generations. I’m sure they will treasure this for years to come.
